Rubber Ducky? Or not.

When I was in Staunton last weekend, these charming little characters were flaunting their personalities through a closed shop window. Thank God, or I may have spent a lot of money on a whim. At least now, if I go back, I’ll have had more time to choose the ones I really ‘can’t’ live without. These guys give the little yellow rubber duck a run for his money.

The reflections from across the street make these a little hard to see, but here’s the overview of the lot of them.

Here’s a closer look at what’s in the barrel. That one of Obama will probably become a collector’s item one day. Probably, infamously, I might add.

This provides a better peek at the selection on the ledge. If I had money, oh how I could waste it on fun stuff like this. I wonder if they sell bubble bath in this little shop too?

    • With two weddings coming up, I’d have probably bought the little bride and groom duckies to add a little humor to the more serious gifts for the happy couples. I could really mess with my son’s head, having him believe he was getting rubber ducks as a wedding gift from me. LOL.

    • Not that I have any love for Obama, but I would probably buy that one in hopes that it will become a collector’s item. Then I’d need two sets of the bride and groom duckies for my son and my great niece and their respective spouses to be. After that, I’d have to decide on a few more for the grandchildren, and then there is me, of course! That witch is the Wicked Witch of the West from the Wizard of Oz. πŸ˜‰ Does she remind you of anyone in particular, Gilly? LOL.

    • I could have really thrown some money away playing in the ducky ponds if this little store had been opened. These little guys were so cute, it would have been hard not to take a couple home. πŸ™‚ Good thing for me, the store was closed.

  1. Today I was in a bookstore but especially for kids… I remembered you dear Marcy, I wished to see your books in here too… You are amazing, I loved these rubber duckies… Thank you, love, nia

    • Nia, you are so sweet to think of me. I really don’t think my books are in a lot of book stores because they are self published. I hope one day, the big guys see them, like them, and decide to pick up my titles. But for now, you can buy my books on Amazon.com. My third book (The Orples Learn To Read) just became available on Amazon, but I’ve not announced it yet, because it is so new, Amazon has not had time to finish setting up the ‘peek inside features’. Also, as we speak, I am having ‘Kindle Publishing Direct’ turn the softcover book into an e-book, so that people can buy an electronic version. There again, once they are finished with their conversions, Amazon and its affiliates will be my major sales outlets in either format. Thank you so much for your encouragement , Nia. You have no idea how much it means to me. Thank you too, for your visit. It is always a pleasure to have you stop by. πŸ™‚ Have a wonderful upcoming weekend. Marcy

  2. Oh I love all the rubber duckies πŸ™‚ I have a bathroom that is ducks and am selective of what ones put in there, but this shop looks like it would make it hard to choose. I have to go there soon. Do you remember what street it was on?

    • I really don’t remember the Street, Beverly St. maybe?? But the shop is in the historic part of Staunton, which really isn’t too big, so the shop should be easy to find. I really wish I paid attention to the name of the shop. I can’t even help you out there. I’m sorry. 😦 But thank you for visiting and sharing in the conversation. πŸ˜‰

    • Someday, the Obama ducky might be sporting stripes instead of a flag lapel pin. πŸ˜‰ I do think though, either way, the Obama ducky will be quite collectable given a little time (no pun intended). πŸ™‚

  3. They look edible! Of course, I’d say that.

Talking of the Wicked Witch of the West, I’ll toss your own question back at you, Marcy – does she remind you of anyone?

10 seconds from now, she will.

I played the Wicked Witch of the West when my music school put up the β€˜The Wizard of Oz’ as our annual student performance show. I was 16 and had a wicked time playing that role. πŸ™‚

Got to take yet another stroll down memory lane with your help. πŸ™‚

    • LOL . Kate, when I think of the Wicked Witch of the West, the first person that comes to my mind is Nancy Pelosi … you may not know who she is, but believe me, if you lived in America, you would. The woman is evil and a damnation to our Country.

On a brighter note, I’m sure you had a ball playing the part of the witch in your play. The Wizard of Oz continues to be one of my all time favorite movies. I”d have loved to have seen your rendition of the witch as she swooshed about on her broom throwing fire.

    • I’m telling you! Normally, I don’t like shopping, including window shopping. However, in the little shops, it is actually fun because some of the selections and displays are so cool … such as this one. πŸ™‚ I’m glad you stopped by to check it out.

  4. Bettie Boop is for me,,,teehee! nice post Marcy, At Easter a charity would organise a rubber duck race. One would buy a duck and at the allotted time the organisers would throw them into a stream and the would then travel for approximately a mile down stream and the winner would win a small prize. I forgot to mention each duck had a name or number. Painting the river yellow. You should people trying to free their ducks when caught up in reeds and overhanging plants…

    • I think we’ve had a few little duckie runs here, too, though I’ve never participated in them. I’ll bet yours was fun to watch. Some people will go to extremes to win.

      • I only participated once, a very hot day it was, and even though rules were no one allowed in the river to free their ducks, some did try other ways, and some ended up in the water, it made for a giggle to watch.

  5. I think some of those are really cute. Haven’t seen anything like them around here. Cute idea to have those floating in the tub. Hugs

    • I’d have gone ape if I could only choose one of these little guys. Of course the store was closed, so I was totally out of luck, but at least my bank account didn’t suffer from needless spending either. There’s an upside to every situation if you look hard enough. πŸ™‚

    • I’m surprised someone hasn’t turned them into a confection of sorts. Although, even at my age I wouldn’t mind playing with these little fellows in the bathtub or wading pool with the grandchildren. Hell, at my age, I can claim I’m reverting back to childhood and probably get away with it. LOL.
