The Orples Learn To Read … coming soon!

I finally sent book 3 (The Orples Learn To Read) off to Createspace to have a prototype made, which is the last step, prior to publication. If there are no changes to be made once I review the first print copy, by this time next week, I should have my third book available for purchase as a softcover book. In a couple of weeks, I hope it will be offered as an e-book, also. That is the plan.

In my efforts to wrap this, my third book, I’ve fallen behind in my blogging. Too, my grandson has been sick on and off this week and I’ve been keeping him since his normal babysitter won’t due to the fact that he is sick, and she doesn’t want to expose other children. Being Grandma trumps all!  Obviously, it has not been a good week for social activities. 😦 . On the bright side, I do hope to get ‘caught up’  on my blogging soon.  Until then, I hope life is being a peach (or maybe, in this case an orple) to you and yours! 😉  I’ll will be dropping in for visits on your posts, so please don’t think I’ve forgotten anyone, if I’ve not dropped by for a visit to your blog recently.

For the time being, I leave you with an inside view.  The excerpt below is page 20.

    • That you so much Nia. I hope my little grand baby feels better soon, too. The poor little fellow has been sick off and on all week. ;( He’s sleeping now, so hopefully the rest will help him get better soon. In the meantime, thank you for dropping by.

  1. Good luck,Marcy, all well deserved,, maybe you can advise Marcy, I created a ‘Createspace’ to try to self publish. Via mt NANOWRIMO participation it advised users could do a free self publish. Is this so and are they good..cheers for support and good with your project. 😉

    • I did everything on this book myself, with the exception of editing, Gerry. Once I laid my pages out, I printed them, scanned them, and printed them into a PDF file, which I sent to CreateSpace. From there, they print the book. They will send me a proof to review, prior to offering the book for sale to the public. If I’m satisfied, they post it on Amazon’s site for sale. My last book took 3 attempts to satisfy me, mostly my fault, because of my own ignorance. I suspect this book will be fine on the first try, since I tried to avoid mistakes I made before. I did pay the editor $120.00 (based on word count, in this case under 10,000 words). I loved the girl I worked with, and felt like I got my money’s worth. CreateSpace does offer various programs for those that want to send them a manuscript and work with an illustrator, other than themselves. I will pay to have my book made into an e-book (based on the information, I’ve already sent in). Hopefully, my books will catch on, and I’ll see a nice return on both my monetary investment, and all of the hours I’ve spent putting these books together. If not, all I can say, is it’s a good thing I like my little orples. 🙂 They do own a piece of me. Thanks for stopping by and your kudos!

      • Thanks so much for this info, I do hope your little friends make your investment pay off. I am not quite ready for my novel yet, stuck a little, doing separate chapters, have to piece them together, Still editing what I have got, not easy is it. thanks again..

        • No, it is not easy, Gerry, but I think it’s what life is about…expressing yourself and sharing ideas. Maybe my orples will outlive me, and become the next “The Little Engine That Could”, or some other classic. Maybe not. I know if I didn’t publish them, then my orples would die in the dust. To me, it is worth the time, effort, and money, to take a chance.

My next hurdle is marketing. I’m not a natural born salesperson, and I can’t afford to pay massive amounts for exposure. So,…. Hmmm, it appears it is time to learn something about internet marketing.

    • Good Morning Sonel, I’m so happy you stopped by. Thank you as always for your encouragement. I hope your are right…that people will like this book series, I’ve poured my heart into these books for sure.

Caleb seems to be feeling a little better this morning, so I hope he is headed toward getting well, and back to his cute little ‘feel good’ personality. He’s been a little tiger this past week.

It’s always a pleasure to see a little note from you on the blogs. Here’s hoping the weekend is lovely for us all! 🙂

    • I do love being Grandma, even when it’s not convenient sometimes. But what can you do? I doubt a short delay is going to make or break me as an author, so all is good. I am grateful that all of my grandchildren are healthy, other than a little bug here and there. Besides, all things happen in their own time. Caleb seems to being doing better tonight, so I hope the worst is behind him. Thank you for stopping by and for your kudos, Christine. It is always a pleasure to have you on board. 🙂

  5. Awesome Marcy! Congratulations and best of luck with the book! I didn’t make a note of what age group your books are meant for! Hope the little one feels better soon.

    • Thank you Madhu. He seems to be perking up a bit now. I think the worst is behind him.

The age group on my first book (I think is 8 – 80). The sequel books are probably best suited for children 6 and up (depending on their reading abilities … they run about 7,500 words each with lots of spot drawings throughout). The experts set them in the 9-12 year old age group, probably due to the word count. My first book deals with loneliness, and internal conflict, which I think we all identify with. The sequels are, more or less, continued stories and adventures stemming from the original book, but they, too, have subtle little lessons lingering between the lines. This book “The Orples Learn To Read” is meant to inspire children to want to learn and seek knowledge. Thanks for your interest and for your visit. 🙂

  6. Sorry to hear the little one has been ill – but hey, what a great idea for the Orples series! I think younger kids will enjoy these, too, as bedtime stories being read to them – and it will inspire them to want to learn to read, too.

    • I sure hope so Judee. I’ve poured my heart and my soul into these little books. They are meant to encourage kids, so I hope they will catch on. I intend to add more titles, but may wait to see how the first three do in sales before I carry on. Caleb (my grand baby) is doing much better this week. Hopefully the worst is behind him. Thank you for stopping by for a visit. 🙂
