This is a drawing I’ve been working on today. I still have a ways to go before it is finished. Maybe one day, I’ll tuck this drawing into one of my orples books should text arise to accompany the scene. For now, this is the begins of an illustration I’m working on for the theme ‘March’ hosted by “Writing and Illustrating”.
Since time is slipping by today, I figured I share this instead of veering off course to hunt for something else. I did a reblog earlier, but that is not the same thing as posting original information, so with that thought in mind, I suspect you’re not likely to see this anywhere else. Thus, wallah,I present to you my postaday2012 entry for today, which will be re-posted again once it is finished. The deadline for entry for this drawing is March 27th, so look for it again between now, and then.
Nice! Do you use colour pencils for your illustrations?
So you are an artist and writer?

I illustrate my own books. I use Corel, which is a drawing program. It is tricky, but I’m getting there. If you want to see some of my other stuff, I have a variety of drawings and posts under my “Orples Overview” Category in my right margin. Please, feel free to take a peek. And thanks for stopping by today. 🙂 It is always a pleasure to see you.

I see… I’ll check your work for sure. I am an artist myself but I use mostly Adobe CS3 and 5. When I write my fantasy book 🙂 (there is always hope, right?) I’ll do the cover and illustrate it myself! Might be too ambitious but seeing other people do it (like yourself), is a good motivation and inspiration. I’ll be back for more of your stuff! 🙂

I would love for you to check out my work. I like doing my own illustrations because it gives me more control over the layout of my books in general. I/you can tweak my/your drawings to suit my/your storyline and vise-versa. Corel is relatively new to me, but one day I hope to master its many features.

Again, thank you, Sonel. I hope to get a line of friendly little children’s books out, complete with moral values and little lessons on life tucked within the story lines. I have a little more tweaking on my current book, “The Orples Make a Tree Home”, then I’ll begin finalizing the third book in my series, “The Orples Learn to Read”. After that, I need to start from scratch and begin book 4 of the series. I am still tossing around ideas for that book. First things, first. For now, I’m trying to expose my work while I am creating it. Which came first, the egg or the chicken?

Oh wow! You go girl! Your books are going to sell like hotcakes hon…really! It’s just what the children of today need. Gosh, I wish we had books like this when we were children. You are doing an awesome job sweetie and I wish you well in your venture. You are doing great! Keep on doing it. 🙂 *hugs*

Thank you so much for the encouragement, Sonel. I remember the books I read to my kids, and have tried to provide books for parents today that are not only entertaining, but that are clean and fun … no violence, no sex, just subtle little message dealing with real life situations. It is also my goal to encourage children to use their imaginations. Obviously, I never grew up myself. LOL. Can you tell? Thank you for stopping by and again, I appreciate the hurrahs! I hope your are right about them selling like hotcakes. If not, then at least my grandchildren are well versed in orples. We’re always discussing Olivia and Oscar in my world. 😉

Well, if only more people still had the child in them and could be like this, what a fun world this could turn out to be hon! You go for it and yes, I believe with all my heart that your books are going to be a success. 🙂

I hope your are right Sonel. I put about 5 years into designing houses for my website (I have 27 houses designed on that) and then the bottom fell out of the building market. I kept my designs extremely simple and practical, sure they’d sell … granted I have to update my website as far as basic information goes, but until the housing market comes back, I’ve decided to shift gears and get my book(s) going. I wrote “How Orples Came To Be” years ago and never had time to illustrate the book until the housing market went bust, so maybe that will turn out to be a blessing in disguise. I believe in “Let go and let God”. I feel very motivated about my books. Maybe one day, once I get these books going and some marketing experience behind me, I’ll circle back and add some more home plans to my drafting portfolio. For now, I’m taking it one day at a time and hoping for the best. Thanks again for the vote of confidence. It means a lot!

Thank you Mumsy. If I could get the silly thing to print off right, there would be a little more blue in the sky behind the white clouds. I don’t know where I went wrong on this one? I’ll figure it out … hopefully by March 27th. LOL. And of course, I still need to add some more details, but it is a start. Thank you for dropping by. 😉

Thank you so much for the compliment. I need to figure out what I’m doing wrong in either printing or scanning this drawing, because as shown here, the color is way too pale. Before I submit it for entry, I need to figure out why the blue in the sky is not coming through. Anyway, I appreciate your stopping by and your feedback.

A whole lot is forgetting it, and that’s exactly why it is so inspiring and endearing when you see this kind of creativity done in basic means.
